I love Padres baseball. From Randy Jones to Tony Gwynn to Trevor Hoffman and Petco Park, the Padres are my team!

Danny Fortson, the Cyborg Smasher:Don't believe the hype. Brad Miller is still around and Danny and the Sonics are gone.

Hey, Kings Nation...

Check out this anti-Brad Miller artwork courtesy of one fan of the Seattle Supersonics Oklahoma City Whateverthehecktheirnameis.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/supersonicsoul/2297975815

Doesn't that arsehole who did this anti-Kings,anti-Brad Miller propaganda crap know the following?

1. Number of All-Star appearances:Brad Miller, 2 (2003 and 2004)

Danny Fortson:NONE!

2. Brad Miller has tried out for the Olympics. DANNY FORTSON DID NOT EVEN COME CLOSE.

3. Brad Miller has been in the postseason 5 times. Danny Fortson did not even come close to it.

4. Brad Miller has been on Wheel of Fortune and has been featured in ESPN the Magazine and Sports Illustrated. The so-called Cyborg Smasher,Danny Fortson? An appearance on the cover of Sports Illustrated's 96-97 College Basketball Preview. And that's all.

5. Brad Miller can actually whip Danny Fortson's arse in real life.

And lastly...

6. Brad Miller is still playing for the Kings, who are owned by the best owners in the NBA,the Maloof brothers. Fortson is out of the NBA,and that artwork of him clobbering Brad Miller has cursed him for the rest of his life.

Conclusion:

Contrary to the childish,anti-Kings,anti-Brad Miller artwork promoting Danny Fortson, aren't we glad that 'The Congressman' is still with the Kings and Danny Fortson is out of a job?

Danny Fortson,'The Cyborg Smasher',my arse!

Keep the faith,Friar Faithful...we're only EIGHT GAMES BACK!

I know the Padres have played horribly during Interleague play, but I checked the standings and I found out that the D-Backs are 40-40,so we are 8 games out. Once we are finished with the A.L.,I predict that we will be seeing the Padres that owned the N.L. West in 2005 and 2006 and the old Padres we know and love...as in the Padres who have the best record in the National League West since PETCO Park opened.

Keep the faith, keep on believin',go Padres!

Thankfully, the rest of the N.L. West are also slumping, too.

Fitz. Yes. Day after Friday. The '08 Padres in the 1st half=the '07 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Hey,I'm back, after my 3-day layoff from GLB, and Thursday's game was the best of the three games (which were all losses) against the Yankees. I have to admit that Josh Banks was just as great as Joba Chamberlain, and I have to admit that the National League just can't do well against the Yankees, but we'll get the Bombers next time.

Anyway, the Yankees' sweep of the Padres could be like the USC Trojans and Michigan Wolverines destroying my Fighting Irish of Notre Dame last year. Both USC and Michigan destroyed the Golden Domers 38-0,and just like the '08 Padres, Charlie Weis' team was at their down point. Notre Dame would continue to lose, including the 46-44 loss to Navy (the 1st time the Irish lost to the Midshipmen since 1963...the 1st time the Irish lost to Navy during the Padres' existence in MLB). But there was light at the end of the tunnel for ND as they beat Duke and Stanford to end a horrible season. The Padres should be like the Fighting Irish that played well against Duke and Stanford, and remember that there is always a chance to get to .500.

The Irish do have plans for the future with Jimmy Clausen at QB,just like our Padres have with Chase Headley,Jake Peavy,Adrian Gonzalez,Khalil Greene and Chris Young. And if Notre Dame can improve on their 3-9 season in '07,I believe the Padres can turn things around in the second half. Hopefully, the second half of the season will prove that we still have faith in the Padres,America's Finest Team in America's Finest City.

By the way...

1. The Irish begin their 2008 season at Notre Dame Stadium against San Diego State September 6.

2. The Irish-Aztecs game can be seen on NBC 7/39 (KNSD-TV). NBC 7/39 carries every Fighting Irish home game, and at http://www.NBCSanDiego.com you can check out their weekly chat with first baseman Adrian Gonzalez online.

3. Remember this:Notre Dame was 2-8 in 1963,then they almost went undefeated in '64,as Ara Parsehegian turned things around and John Huarte won the Heisman Trophy. 2 years later the Irish won the National Championship.  In 1996 the Padres won the N.L. West, but finished last in '97,but would later win the N.L. championship in '98. Before the Irish fell to 3-9 in '07,they made the BCS under Charlie Weis. As the Irish start a new season, expect the Domers to have a big turnaround just like in '64, as well as when Lou Holtz took over the team in '86. (2 years later, the Irish won the National Championship!) Hopefully for our Padres,Bud Black still can turn the team around a la Ara Parseghian and Lou Holtz. Hopefully they can turn things around like last year's Rockies and return to the playoffs!

4. I am also a contributor to  Rakes of Mallow (SB Nation's Notre Dame blog) too! Their site is http://www.rakesofmallow.com.

Go Padres! Keep the Faith!  Go Irish! Play like a champion today!

Friars and M's go retro next Saturday...

Just want to tell all Padres fans that next Saturday, the Friars and Seattle Mariners will play wearing 1978 retro jerseys! San Diego will be wearing their jerseys that were brown and gold, and the uniforms will include the '78 All-Star Game logo! The Mariners will wear their retros too, which is a light blue jersey, and they will wear those classic caps with the trident on them. By the way:San Diego had their 1st winning season in major league baseball in '78,going 84-78,led by Hall of Famers Dave Winfield,Ozzie Smith,Cy Young Award winner Gaylord Perry and of course Randy Jones and manager Roger Craig. The M's were 56-104 in '78,the 104 losses were the worst in franchise history...but they were an expansion franchise! If anyone has any memories of '78 or the Padres uniforms through the years, feel free to post. By the way:1978 was the year I saw my first Padres game on TV:Pirates vs. Padres from San Diego Stadium!

Change we can believe in:Cecil Cooper,Obama's VP candidate!

After this weekend's sweep by the Yankees against the Astros,I think Democratic Presidential Candidate Barack Obama has just picked his vice-presidential candidate.

Houston Astros manager Cecil Cooper.

What Cooper's Astros did last weekend (especially yesterday against the Yanks) would be just like what we will be getting from Obama once he gets elected. Like the Astros offense yesterday,Obama does not have any experience.  Like the Astros' defense and pitching,Obama does not have any experience. Like Cecil Cooper,Obama does not have any experience!  So,Mr. McLane,I think you should hire Nolan Ryan,Hal Lanier,Larry Dierker,Jimy Williams or Phil Garner as your new manager, and tell Coop to hit the road. And in a few days,I believe Cecil Cooper will be Barack Obama's vice-presidential candidate.  Then on Election Day,watch Obama and Cooper get the fewest votes in history and they will have 0 electoral votes, just like what the Astros scored yesterday against New York. Coop, why don't you be Obama's running mate? Now that's change Astros fans can believe in!

Royals Nation remembers the Little Sioux Scout Ranch tornado victims.

Yesterday,a tornado tore through Iowa, and devastated the Little Sioux Boy Scout Ranch, which is near Omaha, home of the Royals' AAA farm team.  4 Boy Scouts were killed, and I believe 48 were injured. Please join me in remembering these 4 young people who lost their lives trying to help their friends to safety and showed that they were true heroes. Also pray for the people who were injured during this storm.

According to the Boy Scouts of America,Mid-America Chapter, they are going to have a fund in memory of the 4 Scouts who died in this tragedy.

Here is the Boy Scouts of America,Mid-America Chapter website:

http://www.mac-bsa.org

Hopefully, the Royals-both Kansas City and Omaha clubs will honor these young heroes and the Scouts at the Little Sioux Boy Scout Ranch with a special tribute. I hope both the Royals and the O-Royals will honor the survivors of this tragedy by welcoming them to the K and at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of everyone at the Little Sioux Boy Scout Ranch.

If we win today against the hated Yankees...

we will be closing in on something we haven't done against New York since 1999...

We may have a chance to win a season series against the Evil Empire!

I know Our Heroes in Blue are 24-38,but if we win today, and at least win 2 of the 3 games on August 16-18 in the Royals' final visit to Yankee Stadium ever, having a winning record against the hated Yankees (in my opinion) will be more important than the Royals 2008 season overall because I hate the Yankees!

And remember,Yankees fans who are members of Pinstripe Alley Arsehole Nation, remember this:we beat you guys 2 games to 1 in our house (the K) in April. We beat you guys Friday. We almost won Saturday. We will win today, and we will say goodbye to the House That Ruth Built on August 16-18 with the biggest Royals victories at Yankee Stadium since that glorious night when the Royals clinched the American League championship in 1980! (And members of Pinstripe Alley Arsehole Nation:where were you when George Howard Brett took Rich "Goose"  "Chicken" Gossage deep for a home run to seal a Kansas City sweep of your beloved Yankees?) We need just 2 wins to beat these overpaid arseholes in pinstripes. For those remaining games vs. New York,I'm bringing back the '04 Royals slogan,Together we can, because we are going to win against the Yankees today and possibly win against the Yankees on August 16-18! Go Royals!

If you have any feedback to this, you are most welcome to post your thoughts. Thanks...

Only 12 days to Padres vs. Yankees...let's reverse '98!

Hey Gaslamp Ballers:

Interleague play returns, and guess what:the Padres are scheduled to take on the New York Yankees June 17-19 at Yankee Stadium. We Padre fans know about the '98 World Series when those Yankee fans with IQs so low they have their own wind chill factor chanted "Padres Suck" when the N.L. Champions were introduced. And of course, the Yanks, who won 114 regular season games, swept the Friars, and many Gaslamp Ballers were disgusted when the Yankees celebrated the sweep at the Q. Some of my favorite highlights from the '98 World Series:

1. Tony Gwynn's home run to the upper deck of Yankee Stadium in Game 1. The greatest home run he ever hit. The greatest World Series home run in Padres history.

2. 65,000+ fans attending Games 3 and 4 of the Series, not only the largest crowds to see a ball game ever in San Diego, but that is also larger than any crowd at a World Series game at that cesspool at Chavez Ravine. Dodger fans, you've been owned!

3. While the Yanks celebrated their 24th World Championship, the 65+K at the Q gave the '98 N.L. Champs a curtain call, thanking the Padres for a great season, and the greatest moment in San Diego sports history.

4. And during the opening week of the 1999 season, the Padres proudly raised the 1998 N.L. Champions banner and the Padres received the N.L. Champions rings,a reward for being the greatest Padres team ever.

Yes,the Pads and Yanks have met during interleague play. In 2002,the Bronx Bombers made their only regular-season appearance in San Diego to date, winning 2 out of 3,but the Padres played hard in all 3 games, with Brian Lawrence stifling New York for San Diego's 1st ever win over the Yanks, and in the 2nd game of that series,61,000+ fans came to the Q to see a future Cy Young Award winner named Jacob Edward Peavy make his Major League debut against New York...and by the way,the game was on national TV,courtesy of Baseball on Fox. (Peavy did very well in that game.) In 2004 the Padres and Yankees played at Yankee Stadium, and in the 1st game, the Friars spanked the Yanks 10-3,as Adam Eaton dominated Murderer's Row (Jeter,A-Rod,Matsui,Sheffield,Giambi,Posada,etc.) and Phillip Joseph Nevin put the icing on the cake with a huge home run in the 9th inning to lock this one up for San Diego. The Padres lost the 2nd game of that series, although Dennis Tankersley (?) pitched a decent game, and in the 3rd game, former Yankee David Wells returned to the Bronx, and for once the Yankee fans who chanted "Padres Suck" 6 years ago, would cheer for a Padres pitcher who was one of the Yankees' own. Boomer pitched a heck of a game, but the Padres' bullpen could not give David the win,and the Yanks won in extra innings.

Now the Padres and Yankees meet at Yankee Stadium, this time this will be the final season for Old Yankee Stadium as the new Yankee Stadium will be built for the 2009 season. We know the Padres and Yankees are struggling, with San Diego fighting to just have a decent season, but the Yankees are doing bad too. Remember when Notre Dame had that 0-5 start, and a 3-9 season last year (which included 38-0 disasters against USC and Michigan)? Hopefully like the Fighting Irish's upcoming 2008 schedule, the Padres fortunes will change for the better when they will take all 3 games from the Yankees in two weeks at Yankee Stadium.

If any of you Gaslamp Ballers have any comments on this post, feel free to do so. And:are there any Padre fans in New York City? Gaslamp Ball invites you to tell why you are a Padres fan. And I invite all Gaslamp Ballers to share their thoughts of the '98 World Series, and were they there at the Q,and were they there for the '98 pennant ceremony and the ring presentation?

Go Padres...Experience it! Sweep the Yankees on June 17-19!

Merry Christmas! Here is what I want for 2008,Santa...

Hi,GLBers! We're just 4 hours away from Christmas here in the East, and I have already have a wish list for GLBers for the 2008 season...here it is!

Adrian Gonzalez hitting 40 homers
Khalil Greene hitting 30 homers and winning a Gold Glove
Jim Edmonds doing well as a Padre
Jake Peavy winning another Cy Young
Trevor Hoffman saving 58 games this season, making him the all-time single season record holder in saves
Jake Peavy striking out 300 batters
The Giles brothers getting clutch hits all the time
The Padres kicking the Yankees' arse all 3 games in the Bronx in June, with A-Rod going hitless in the series, striking out every time
The Padres sweeping all 18 games from the Dodgers, with every game a blowout
The Padres winning the N.L. West by 20 games with a 103-59 record
Adrian Gonzalez as '08 N.L. MVP
The Padres dominating the N.L. Playoffs winning the N.L. pennant in 2008
The Padres sweeping the A.L. champ with the 4th and final game at PETCO
and last,but not least...
The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame winning every game in '08 (losing just once-a 1 point loss to USC) and go on to win the '09 BCS championship game!
Those are my predictions for '08,let's make this 40th anniversary season the best ever for the Padres! It's been great being a part of GLB in '07,and it'll be great in '08 and forever! Go Padres! Experience the holidays! Happy Christmas,everyone...and God bless one and all!
