Derrell Hand arrested

With only a few days until fall camp was set to start, Irish coach Charlie Weis announced on Friday that junior DT Derrell Hand would be suspended from the team indefinitely after being arrested for solicitation Thursday afternoon in South Bend.  He was later released on $250 bail and a court date has not yet been set up.  Hand, from West Catholic in Philadelphia, PA, had not played in his first two years but given the lack of experience and numbers on the defensive line, he was expected to compete for the starting role and significant minutes.  While the suspension is not permanent, most believe that Weis and the university could sit him out for the entire season and school year.  It is unclear if he would be back following that.  He must first go through ND's Student Affairs' disciplinary process before going back to the football program.

What boggles me is how a Division I football player needs a prostitute to fulfill his needs.  He needs to start hanging around Armando and Jimmy Clausen a whole lot more.  He's a large man, for sure, but that hasn't stopped a number of big football players from having hot women around them.  Derrell obviously hasn't taken advantage of that varsity jacket in his closet.

At least we'll catch some ground on the rest of college football in the Fulmer Cup Standings.
