Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Tuesday Rundown

T minus 6 days until Fall ball.  Woohoo.  So news should be slow, right?  Not so fast my friends...

We mentioned the Notre Dame-Michigan "infinity years" deal yesterday and details of the agreement are still vague.  Among the issues:

o    What happens in 2012?  We are already slated to play USC away and Oklahoma away, so does this mean that Michigan is home or away?  If we are away, you mind as well fire White now.  Also, is the Oklahoma game still on?  Again, if it's not, you might as well fire White now.
o    How did this change so fast?  Just a week ago we heard from both sides that Notre Dame was moving on for the time being on the series.  Did Fr. Jenkins or John Affleck-Graves make White change his stance on the scheduling issue?  I hope that's the case.
o    Does Michigan still suck?  We know that answer and yes they do.

So many questions about this news and so little answers from both Dr. White and whoever the hell Michigan's athletic director is.  The scheduling debate is not over, but I think White has to be applauded for his quick actions, though we definitely have the right to retract that applause if certain conditions of the agreement are not met.  Let's hope things will go smoothly for him.

Some news on our former quarterback and the most handsome holdout, Brady Quinn:

Browns rookie quarterback Brady Quinn said Monday from Arizona he feels he's doing the right thing by waiting for the right deal, even though it's difficult.

"I'd love to be there competing for the starting job," said Quinn, who has missed the first four days of camp. "But it's a long contract, and I have to make sure it's fair in the event I become the starter."

Quinn said he trusts his agent, Tom Condon, who was named the most powerful agent in football by The Sporting News in 2006. Condon represents some of the biggest-name quarterbacks in the league, including Peyton and Eli Manning, Drew Brees, Chad Pennington and Matt Leinart. He also represents former Browns No. 1 pick Tim Couch, who just signed with Jacksonville.

"Tom has a first-round quarterback every year, and he's accustomed to dealing with this," said Quinn, who tumbled to No. 22 on draft day. "That's why I chose him. He's been in tough situations."

I hope people aren't getting upset at Quinn because of the holdout.  There are plenty of other players holding out, including fellow QB and #1 pick Jamarcus Russell.  I've heard there are issues over the signing of the contract with Jamarcus.  In a literal sense.  I'm talking he's unable to fully sign the contract.

Let's avoid the crayon next time, Jamarcus

The South Bend Tribune has a terrific piece on the development of the basketball team this summer, including the freshman class.  Worth a read for you Irish basketball fans.

Mike Frank has a free story up about our QB recruit Dayne Crist.  It's worth a read.  Crist recently participated in the Elite 11 quarterback camp last week and the reviews were outstanding.  I know it's early and all, but I really believe he's going to be a tremendous quarterback for us - maybe the best raw talent Charlie Weis has been able to work with so far.

Uncle Rico has nothing on this guy

Speaking of Mike Frank, since it's time for fall camp, you might want to start thinking about signing up for Mike Frank's Irish Eyes site.  I've been a member there for the past 5 years or so and keep on coming back.  It's addicting.  There are such things as good addictions.  Such as heroin.

Well, that's all I have for you today.  Stay tuned later in the week when we revisit our Spring practice expectations.

That article got me really excited about this upcoming season. I know we are just about to start football season, but I can't help it. I have to remember to not get too excited because all these recent Irish teams seem to do is get me really excited and then flop. Last year was the first time in a while that they exceeded my expectations, and that's not really that hard to do. Are these incoming freshman gonna be any good?
