Manic Monday
Happy Monday to everyone! Only a mere 41 days until Georgia Tech heads to South Bend to face the undefeated Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. Hopefully everyone took the weekend to relax, reflect and forgive (that means you JoePa lovers!!!).
We haven't really taken a stab at the entire scheduling problem that Dr. White has implemented, but that doesn't mean other more qualified bloggers haven't. Blue-Gray Sky has a few pieces on the recent news (here and here and here). It's a rather long and spirited debate, but every Irish fan should be required to know what the issues are and what is at stake. Regardless of the fact that this is going against Notre Dame tradition (something Dr. White doesn't understand - simply because he did not attend Notre Dame), I do believe this has serious implications on the future of the football program. The scheduling modification will require Notre Dame to be undefeated to get to the National Championship game and even if they're undefeated, our popularity will not guarantee a trip when you're playing teams like San Diego State and Nevada. Something needs to change.
Former Irish defensive end and proud Dillonite Victor Abiamiri just signed with the Philadelphia Eagles (poor guy) and has made some very positive impressions on fans thus far. From PhillyBurbs.com:
"His quickness -- that was thing I remember as much as anything," said Tom Freeman, who was Stanford University's offensive line coach in 2006. Abiamiri had three sacks against the Cardinal in Notre Dame's 31-10 win on Oct. 7.
"He'll do a nice job," said Freeman, who's now coaching at the University of Central Florida. Eagles defensive coordinator "Jim Johnson's got some fiendish blitzes, and I'm sure he's just licking his chops. At the time, Victor faced bigger guys. He was probably 255 pounds or so, probably closer to 250. He relied on quickness."
I think Victor's only scratched his potential. This guy is a freak and it'll show.

No one walked down the hall in a towel better than you, Victor
In other news, Brady Quinn still hasn't signed. I'm sure a hold out will make him plenty popular in Cleveland.
Penn State fans are being urged to wear white to the Notre Dame game. Perhaps we should just forfeit now.
A plug for a very good blog, Stiles Points. They're running a series about "College Football at it's best" and were nice/stupid enough to ask us if we could help out. Here's Notre Dame's story, so check it out.
