It Will Go Down In Irish Lore, Sadly

43 years.  This is my "Had to walk both ways uphill in the snow to get to school" story:

You think that's bad, kids?  My senior year, we lost to Navy for the first time in over four decades.  Stop your crying about the depletion of the ozone layer and the reign of our robot overlords and realize the pain we felt!

Full breakdown tomorrow.  Maybe.  I might just enjoy Pats/Colts and American Gangster then just call it quits on this season, even though today's game was entertaining in the most painful sort of way.  EDSBS has very shaky footage of a very shaky playcall, where Ram Vela delivered a flying, Soulja Boy-endorsed clothesline of Evan Sharpley after Charlie Weis decided against attempting a game-winning field goal.  Enjoy.  Or don't.

I can't imagine a more fitting ending for the most deflating loss of the season than the offensive line collapsing and Travis Thomas failing to convert.  I guess Armando Allen and James Aldridge weren't available on that play.

Also: The only two people left on the Heisman ballot at this point are Dennis Dixon and Darren McFadden.  You could maybe make a case for Mike Hart and I always support Tim Tebow, but it's down to the Duck and Razorback.

get out of the tank, guys
  1. if you had watched charlie's press conference, you would know the clear reason why the field goal was not a logical option.
  2. if you have been following the 2008 and future years recruiting, you would understand that charlie and corwin and their staffs have turned around the notre dame football program by recreating from scratch the notre dame recruiting network the lazy bob davie let die on the vine.
  3. the only weapon that notre dame's enemies have now to break up that 2008 recruiting class are to show those commits negativity and dissention within the notre dame community.
  4. when the 2008 recruiting class arrives this summer, notre dame will have talent at every position and depth of talent at every position, without which those hard hitting joe moore type practices were impossible.
  5. the courage, loyalty, and dedication of every member of this fine 2007 notre dame team and the hard work and dedication of charlie and his staff are the things that made this turnaround possible.
lazy bob davie left a chasm in the notre dame recruiting network deeper and wider than the grand canyon.

6. only a lack of faith and negativity from within the notre dame community can undo the work and sacrifices that they have all made.

we pray the you see the light, get out of the tank, and start celebrating the turnaround and congratulating all of those responsible, instead of being sad and negative about one football game and one bad season, so far,

i have one question for you:
did lazy bob davie lose to navy?

46-44.  43 years down the drain.  you are officially out of excuses.

The field goal
This will obviously be talked about in the recap, but if Weis wanted four more yards to kick that field goal, why didn't we just run Armando on third down to get those four yards and then kick it?

i agree
if the plan all along was to go for it, then they shouldve given armando the ball on 3rd down.

even with the wind, tell me what is a more likely scenario:

a) making a 41-yard field goal
b) converting a 4th and 8 with an historically bad offense.

charlie really dropped the ball on that one.

A truly magical year
They're going to start filing delusional under N, for Notre DelusioNal. First the "we're going to finish 9-3 at worst!", then the blaming Ty, then the "we'd beat you in November", then it really IS November and you guys couldn't beat Bea Arthur, then the "but it's STILL Ty's fault! He didn't recruit!", then the "OK, MAYBE Weis is a bit over his head, and maybe Navy beat us with players that couldn't even start on the current ND team, but we're going to win 3 of the next 2 BCS Championships, so you guys better not make fun of us.

The entire college football universe is laughing. Not with you. Not near you. Not next to you. AT YOU.

HTH.

aren't you a PSU fan?
i dont usually respond to trolls.  ill let OSU fans come on here and say what they want.  same with SC, BC..shit, even kansas.  just not fucking penn state.

3-9 in '03, 4-7 in '04 - don't act like your program hasn't been where ND is now.  wasn't this year supposed to be THE year for you, kind of like '06 was for ND?  i mean, if not for playing in the ridiculously bad Big Ten, this would be much worse than an already average 7-3 football team, don't you agree?

ND has hit rock bottom, no doubt about that.  but it's pretty funny for a fan of a team which outside of '05 has been mediocre/bad for nearly 20 years (like ND) would come on here and talk shit.  worry about your own program - your aren't in much better shape.

lesson learned?
Despite my displeasure with that game (which is adequately expressed on every ND blog and message board and need not be repeated), Vela's sack was one of the coolest things I've ever seen on the football field.  Great photo...thanks.

The (fighting?) Irish should blow up that picture and hang it everywhere to remind this team, for the next three weeks, the passion required to win a football game.

Vela and his fellow Middies showed the Irish how to compete and lets hope the lesson is digested.  Here's to a sudden (if unexpected) shift in mentality...and three victories.

Go Irish!
