Getting Ready for Navy: By The Numbers

305- Number of points allowed by Navy's defense this season through eight games.

59- Number of points scored by the Notre Dame offense so far this season, and I'm being generous by giving the offense credit for drives where field goals were kicked after they couldn't move the ball post-turnovers and returns.

59- Number of points scored by Delaware - DELAWARE - against Navy on Saturday.

45- Number of points scored by Pitt against Navy.  If you've ever watched a Dave Wannstedt coached team, you realize how hard it would be to give up double digits - let alone 45 points - to a team coached by Wanny.

16- Difference in yards passing between Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada and Jimmy Clausen, 634 to 618.  Kaheauk-Enhada also has more touchdown passes (4 to 1) on far fewer completions (36 to 81).  All of this might be a fruitless exercise as Paul Johnson pulled his starter for Jarod Bryant against the Fighting Ronald Talleys, who went 8 of 11 for 126 yards.

3 or 3.5- Number of points Notre Dame is favored by Saturday, depending on the betting service you're using.  The over-under is at 53, which seems either very low if you look at both team's defenses or really high when you look at Notre Dame's offense.

119th- Where Navy ranks in total passing offense.

22nd- Where Navy ranks in passing efficiency, meaning while they don't throw it a lot, they're hella effective when they do thanks to the opposing defenses' dedication to stopping the run.  This means you'll see Lambert and Wooden on islands maybe a dozen times Saturday, which probably translates to continued success with passing efficiency.

342.88- Rushing yards per game average by the Midshipmen, good for first in all the nation.  As Rob said last night, "Welcome to the college game, Corwin Brown."  Enjoy trying to stop the triple option with linebackers who are either A) Slow or B) Young and probably not ready for confusion en masse.

119th- Notre Dame's total offense ranking, putting them - as you know - last in the NCAA.

47- Yards per game the Irish are behind Florida International, the second-worst offense in the country.

43- The number of consecutive wins Notre Dame has over Navy, dating back to the Roger Staubach era.  Oh God, please don't lose to Navy Saturday...

Blue Hens
Let's not be hasty with the Delaware Sucks mantra.
They have been a great second tier team for decades, and can muster some talent in their league.  As we have Rockne, they still live off of the ghost of Tubby Raymond, the guy who invented the wishbone.

Not to say we shouldn't beat Navy handsdown.
