Lunchtime Notre Dame Recruiting Update: Ferguson, Schwenke, Ioane
Notre Dame was one of a half dozen losers in a hat game for Ego Ferguson, who is heading to LSU. Hawaiian safety Jeremy Ioane is going to Boise State, but fellow islander and four-star defensive end Kona Schwenke is Irish.

No decommits and the addition of James and Schwenke make this a very, very good signing day for the Irish. There's a sliver of a chance for some more excitement later, but I believe for all intents and purposes, this is your 2010 recruiting class. Good work by Coach Kelly and the staff.

Does anyone know if
Seantrel Henderson or Dietrich Riley have signed? According to ESPN they hadn’t but of course they don’t have Ioane having recruited to Boise yet.
Pitchers and Catchers report February 17th... And so begins my masochistic addiction.
Henderson to announce at 5:30 EST, Riley at 4:30
I don’t think that ND has much of a shot at Riley. Just about everything I’ve seen has him choosing between SC and UCLA. Henderson is probably a bit of a long shot, too, but less so than Riley.
I actually thougth Riley had a verbal with UCLA, but whatever...
A boy can dream.

And now Henderson to USC.
Dammit. I’d hoped that he would choose Miami or Ohio St. just so we wouldn’t have to face him.
Re: Henderson
What makes a kid want to go play for a complete and utter D-bag? I mean, wouldn’t anyone with a shred of reason look at Kiffykins and think “Hey, he’s a D-bag”. Who follows that up with “Maybe I should go play for him?”
Good luck on probation, Seantrel. This isn’t a sour grapes “ooh, I hope you fail and you’re a poor human being because you didn’t choose my school, you suck” rant. I wish everyone the best, no matter where they go (just hope you lose to ND). I just don’t understand why anyone would want to go play for Kiffy.
He's 18.
18-year-olds like the flash. The NCAA doesn’t have the stones to really punish USC. They’ll lose some scholarships and maybe, maybe, get banned from post-season play for a year or two, but I’ll be shocked if the Trojans feel any pain or even alter their tactics.

No
They won’t, you are correct, and it’s goddamn pathetic that the NCAA can’t grow some balls and stop staring at the damn college football revenues to do something about it.
In football, the object is for the quarterback, otherwise known as the field general, to be on target with his aerial assault, riddling the defense by hitting his recievers with deadly accuracy in spite of the blitz, even if he has to use the shotgun. With short bullet passes and long bombs, he marches his troops into enemy territory, balancing this aerial assault with a sustained ground attack that punches holes in the forward wall of the enemy's defensive line.
In baseball the object is to go home! And to be safe! "I hope I'll be safe at home!"

Sure sounds like a "ooh, I hope you fail and you’re a poor human being because you didn’t choose my school, you suck rant.
If he had declared for ND you would have nominated him for sainthood probably.
As for why a kid would choose to go to USC, it is a better program than ND right now. Plus a lot of USC OLs go on to have good careers in the pros. Finally, look how badly ND’s OL has played the last few seasons. Sam Young was the Seantrel Henderson of his senior high school class, and look what happened to him at ND. I am pleasantly amazed that ND was able to recruit the two elite OLs (Lombard and James) that they did. Good work Kelly and company.
I always turn to the sports section first. The sports page records people's accomplishments; the front page has nothing but man's failures.
