Pete Carroll, Possibly Scared of Brian Kelly and Looming NCAA Violations, Leaves for Seattle

Pete Carroll, head counselor of Camp Win Forever and head coach for the University of Southern California Trojans, is heading back to the NFL, per ESPN.  This all happened incredibly quickly, as yesterday saw the firing of Jim Mora, Jr., in Seattle after a single season, along with the departures of Joe McKnight and Damian Williams to the NFL draft.  The rumors immediately leaked out that the Seahawks wanted Carroll at any cost (seven million?!), so ladies and gentlemen, please grab your lifevests and hold onto your loved ones:

It's a shame Carroll is moving on, because I really wanted to beat that guy after his tremendous run of recent success against the Irish.  He was a bastard, but in a fun "Oh, you called timeout?  Then I'm chucking it deep" way.  A great nemesis to have, it's a shame Coach Kelly won't get a crack at him out in the Coliseum next year.  It would be extremely difficult for his successor to have anywhere near the level of success Carroll did in his time there, but the cupboard is far, far, far from bare.

The likely replacement?  There's a lot of names out there already, but it looks like Mike Riley might be at the top of the list, along with Steve Sarkisian, Jack Del Rio, Jeff Fisher, and if Spencer has his way, Coach O.  The nightmare scenario for everyone should be that the Trojans get Mike Leach, who then would be running his offense with a bunch of five star guys and approaching triple digit scoring.  While the Carroll move isn't 100% official yet, I would like premptively extend my sincerest best wishes for a long, rumor-filled and eventually unsatisfying search to USC.

I think the hip new office pool should be picking what date Southern California's football violations will be announced by either their athletic department or the NCAA.  If I'm setting the over/under, I'll put it at the end of the month, and take the under.

Pete Carrol is at the top of the list whom I love to hate...

and still like the guy. That throwing deep after the timeout was flipping sweet.

Leach to USC?

I’m still drinking the Kelly kool-ade, so…bring it.

First one to 60 wins.

There isn't even a hint of a rumor of that

But it would be wildly entertaining

I think Leach would be a GREAT hire for USC.

Barkley would thrive in that offense.

Here's hoping...

USC goes with someone with no college experience, and the suffer just a little bit of the hell the Irish have the past few years.
