| Last week's ballot | ||
Dropped Out: Georgia Tech (#9), Baylor (#12), Nebraska (#17), Arizona (#24), Pittsburgh (#25).
- I went back and forth on Miami (FL) and Alabama at number one and settled on the Canes. Alabama's neutral site win over Virginia Tech is probably the best between the two, but the Canes dominating Georgia Tech at home and winning at Florida State on a Monday nighter to open the season trumps any second win of the Tide. A fantastic game Saturday as The U gets its own shot at the Hokies, followed by their game with Oklahoma. A 4-0 Miami team would get stapled to the top of the poll with that resume, while a 3-1 team would still be top five.
- Not overly impressed with Texas and Florida in their first real games of the season. There were flu bugs going around and I fully expect them to start blowing the doors off of people as the season progresses, but they're not there yet.
- Boise State and Cincy could both probably he higher.
- LSU jumps up on the basis of their Washington win gaining a whole lot of value, while Auburn and UCLA have both quietly put together nice little resumes with some wins over BCS conference teams.
- Washington jumps ahead of USC and USC stays ahead of Ohio State, but the logic of Oklahoma, Florida State and BYU doesn't necessarily follow head-to-head results, mainly due to how bad the Cougars' loss at home was.
- Penn State wrapped up their preseason slate and now has an opportunity to actually play someone with Iowa on Saturday night. Ole Miss - who at least has the road game against Memphis to their credit - also gets their first conference test at South Carolina Thursday night. I hope Penn State goes undefeated and gets left out of the title game behind a one-loss Miami team or something, because their non-conference is making baby Jesus cry.
- I don't look at the prior week's ballot, and Missouri just sort of ended up tumbling. These things happen. Sorry, Tigers. Mississippi just randomly rises for the same reason.
- As usual, there are ten different teams to fill in the twenties. Pitt could be there, Georgia. Clemson. Anyone feeling particularly inspired about anyone to put them there?
- As always, this is very flexible, so any suggestions or comments are welcome. There is a lot of football going on and I try to read up and watch as much as possible, but things fall through the cracks.
