Gametime! ND @ UConn Gameday Thread

Big game for the Irish basketball team this weekend as they face the 2nd rated UConn Huskies.  It'll be a tough game for the Irish, going up against Jim Calhoun's $1.6 million dollar salary (he just told me to shut up) and heading into Storrs where the students will put down the shrooms and Dave Matthews and be ready for this Saturday afternoon game.  I'm not enitrely confident about our prospects this afternoon, but if the Irish can somehow pull this one off, they'll be looking pretty before their last 2 games in attempt to salvage the season and end up 10-8 in the Big East.  This game could go a long way on the team's tournament resume, so let's hope they come out blazing.  Go Irish!

thabeet took the tip

least surprising moment of the game

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:08 PM EST reply actions

jackson hits a jumper

we have to shoot well from outside

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:09 PM EST reply actions

carlton scott, ty nash and zach hillesland

their jobs today should be to foul the hell out of thabeet and adrien

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:10 PM EST reply actions

lost the first segment 9-5

not a great start. harangody looks lost on offense and no one is playing defense. seems sadly familiar this season

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:15 PM EST reply actions

This team does not know how to play offense against this team.

Zeller actually has to get some minutes today since they are so large. That scares the hell out of me.

Nash needs to be in, I agree.

by Rob on Feb 28, 2009 2:17 PM EST reply actions

NASH!

like a man over thabeet. he slayed thabeet!

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:21 PM EST reply actions

thabeet is gonna be fine

never cheer for anyone to get hurt, but some girl screamed in the crowd when she saw he was down. it was like a horror movie scream. hilarious

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:22 PM EST reply actions

won that segment 5-4

let’s keep rolling with nash

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:23 PM EST reply actions

Goddamn I love Nash.

Our defense looks like a clusterfuck. Zeller was on Price. WTF

by Rob on Feb 28, 2009 2:23 PM EST reply actions

flipper three missed from gody

followed by a slam from robinson and a turnover

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:28 PM EST reply actions

If they're hitting threes and the bigs hit the elbow jumpers

I’m not sure what shot we have. Can we play Nash, Zeller and Gody at the same time?

After UConn went up 20-14, I looked to the sideline. Mike Brey turned for an answer…and Luke Zeller went up to go into the game.

God help us.

by Rob on Feb 28, 2009 2:31 PM EST reply actions

when did we lose our touch?

seems like it’s been since the texas game

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:35 PM EST reply actions

Thabeet

I think I’ve talked myself into him as a solid rotation player on a good NBA team. He’s never going to be great at offense, but he’s drastically better than last year.

I would like Ayers to hit another seven threes?

by CW on Feb 28, 2009 2:40 PM EST reply actions

i think thabeet could be a mutumbo

maybe even better offensively. he’s only played hoops for like four years

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:43 PM EST reply actions

who is this edwards guy?

he played well against us in SB too

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:45 PM EST reply actions

At the very least, you can say we have active hands on both ends.

by CW on Feb 28, 2009 2:45 PM EST reply actions

only down 2, fine

but it seems like we’re down a million, less good

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 2:49 PM EST reply actions

I still think we’ll get blown of the water in the 2nd half

by Rob on Feb 28, 2009 2:52 PM EST reply actions

If Nash doesn’t play 15 minutes this half, I think we all can admit Brey has somewhat of a learning disability.

by Rob on Feb 28, 2009 2:54 PM EST reply actions

hillesland is out

feel bad for him, but he’s been ineffective of late

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:08 PM EST reply actions

gody burned thabeet from the wing

if we can keep thabeet out there, life will be good

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:11 PM EST reply actions

We need to keep this going. What worries me is that we’re going to stumble and not get back up.

by Rob on Feb 28, 2009 3:13 PM EST reply actions

not a bad first segment

we need ayers to stay warm. he and kmac really need to go 50% from three

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:14 PM EST reply actions

agree, Rob

things with us can get ugly fast

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:14 PM EST reply actions

poor substitution for ND

zeller for nash, peoples for ayers after UConn tied it up. not the guys we need to stem the flow of momentum

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:17 PM EST reply actions

jackson with a great take

and a chance to tie……………converted.

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:29 PM EST reply actions

ayers is on adrien

no wonder he has 21 points on 10 of 11 shooting

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:32 PM EST reply actions

Still a lot of time to go, but this is a great game.

I know I am redundant, but if Zeller comes back into the game I will kill someone.

by Rob on Feb 28, 2009 3:33 PM EST reply actions

Tyrone Nash

I’m ten times more impressed with ND with Nash emergence. Kid’s fearless. Great handles, too.

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 28, 2009 3:35 PM EST reply actions

gody showed be looking to take thabeet off the dribble

every time he gets the ball around the three on the wing

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:37 PM EST reply actions

and then gody

gody tried to follow with a leaner. not his shot

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:40 PM EST reply actions

Transition D needs to pick it up

UCONN’s halfcourt offense mediocre

--PB--

by Peter Bean on Feb 28, 2009 3:40 PM EST reply actions

He needed to kick that out

Oh, this was Senior Day?! No way Jeff Adrien loses on Senior Day.

by CW on Feb 28, 2009 3:40 PM EST reply actions

Still alive, but we better do something on offense.

For as many threes as we put up, you would think Brey would want to put someone in that can actually rebound on offense. PUT NASH IN. SERIOUSLY.

by Rob on Feb 28, 2009 3:43 PM EST reply actions

Hack A Thabeet?

ND Basketball will be the death of me

http://www.rakesofmallow.com

by CW on Feb 28, 2009 3:43 PM EST reply actions

nash has three fouls

but if things get out of hand, why not get him in before they do even if he fouls out

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:44 PM EST reply actions

sometimes brey calls timeouts

and i don’t even think he knows why

by mhb on Feb 28, 2009 3:46 PM EST reply actions

Nash is what Adrien was on that 2006 UConn team

Bunch of skilled perimeter guys who could score, but maybe a little soft, so the young guy just came in and bashed some skulls.

I wish Mike Brey would let him go in and bash some skulls for the next three minutes.

by CW on Feb 28, 2009 3:47 PM EST reply actions

Well, at least we had Peoples in for his offense.

WHAT THE FUCK
