Golden Tate Wins The Biletnikoff, Claims Title of Best Receiver of 2009
Not a bad cap to a productive day for Irish football. Not sure anyone has deserved an award more, with evidence after the jump:

I freely admit I do not follow college football as closely as I used to,
but it is hard to imagine another WR having a better year than Tate had this season. His performance while Floyd was sidelined was the most remarkable thing to me. Opposing DCs knew they had to stop Tate yet they could not. Congrats to Tate.

I can't ever remember seeing a player...
who (for lack of a better word) was so scrappy. The guy just goes up and gets the ball, I dont ever remember seeing him drop a catchable ball.

Don't take this the wrong way
Golden had a great year. His numbers are very impressive. But the best wide receiver in America this year was Danario Alexander from Mizzou. Had it not been for the Biletnikoff’s stupid policy on adding players throughout the year, Danario would have been a runaway winner.
Danario- 107 rec. 1644 yards, 13 TD’s
Tate- 93 rec. 1496 yards, 15 td’s
Let me also point out Alexander was playing for a 1st year starter (and no other real threats at receiver) while Golden was playing with Clausen, Rudolph, and Floyd the better part of the year.
Go Irish, Go Tate, but the most deserving player did not win.
You are completely ignoring his ability to run the football as well.
It is receiver of the year, so of course, returning does not count, but Tate was the most unstoppable with the ball in his hands.
And for future reference…
best stats is not equal to best
Those are overwhelming stats
If you are going to look at stats in a vacuum, then they better be pretty damn convincing. For me, the most impressive thing about Tate is how and when he did things. He made plays at the most crucial moments of games. Some of his best games came when Floyd was out and everyone knew he was going to get the ball and still made the play.
Danario is good and should have been nominated, but he is not Golden.
sour grapes
Tate was much more deserving, deal with it.

Yeah, as far
best stats conveying to best receiver, I think you need to look at the “intangables”. Tate definetly has “it”/“them”, he’s Mr. all around and then some

You won't believe me but...
I agree with all of you. Tate takes it easily if you look at more than receiving. I am a Mizzou alum, but am also a Irish fan and i watched all the games of both teams…both receivers came up with HUGE plays when there team needed them.
ALL of Danario’s big plays came when people knew he would get the ball. He was all we had.
Both are great players. And honestly, if Danario is in the top 3 (def. more deserving than Shipley who did nothing in there big games) then i probably would not even care, because Tate is very deserving.
A combination of a break out year for Danario and him overcoming injuries (2 ACL tears in 2 years) made it an emotional issue for Mizzou faithful.
I wish Kelly would have had the oppurtunity to try and talk Clausen and Tate into coming back to ND.
YEAH!!!
Texas had a pretty mediocre schedule, and Shipley (and McCoy for that matter) were non existent vs OU.

has either player hired an agent?
If not, they can return to ND. I hope Kelly at least places a call to see if there is a chance either would be willing to return. I doubt they will, but I hope he makes the call. With Crist hurt and no real backup right now, talking to Clausen would seem to be a no-brainer. While Tate has been nothing short of brilliant this season, he is the more expendable player right now.
