Troy Remains Standing, Boston College Comes To Town
Sorry for the delay in posting, folks, but it's been rather busy since the grass at Notre Dame Stadium betrayed Duval Kamara and Jimmy Clausen's potential game-tying touchdown fell incomplete. While the Michigan game resulted in an intentional stay on any posting here, the USC result just happened to coincide with a visit home and a long drive back to work and real life yesterday. I'm obviously very sad that the Irish lost, but the effort was there and vast strides were made from last year. The team didn't quit, and save for some issues (I'm treading lightly) in the secondary, most phases of the game produced for the Irish. There wasn't a lot of pressure on Matt Barkley, but the front seven stopped the run about as well you could hope and Clausen and Golden Tate showed why they are potentially the most dangerous QB-to-WR combo in the nation.
We'll get into details of the Trojans defeat later in the week, but there is little time to dwell, as an enigmatic Boston College Eagles come to town Saturday. Notre Dame has been on an inexcusable losing streak lately (although BC was off the schedule in both '05 and '06, perhaps the two best Irish teams of the decade), and if this season is to not fall off a cliff, Weis and company need this game. I'll be exchanging queries with our sister site at SBN, BC Interruption, and looking into an Eagles team that has been as up and down as any this season. BlogPoll ballot coming later today, along with some more fallout from Saturday's 34-27 loss.

We just don't need the BC game
I think we need to blow them out. We haven’t dominated handedly any team we’ve faced this year…not even Nevada though that was our easiest victory. We need to come out Saturday and say “we’re better than you by a lot.”
This is a statement game.
Fanaticism is not logical
Just win, baby.
A win over BC is big, it does not have to be a by a big score. A lot of people around the country are looking to see if ND collapses after the loss to USC. While I would not mind if they crush BC this week, I don’t think it is necessary to make a statement that ND is on its way back.

You're absolutely right, but why not go for the throat?
My greatest wish is to make an example out of BC. What fun that’d be! That should be the mindset of the Irish. Not just win, but win big. Why be afraid of disappointment? That seems to be their achilles heel. Their biggest fear is to lose, and they’ll sacrifice winning to avoid losing. That’s a recipe for a ho-hum average football team, when they’ve certainly got the talent to dominate their schedule. IMO
And your sig quote: brilliant. If you want something fresh and positive, it’s on the sports page.

If ND should clock BC big time
great, I just do not think it is necessary that ND crushes BC for ND to get back on track. A win, even a close one, would be just fine. Just beating BC would send a message that ND is on the road back, but I agree a blowout win would send a much louder message.
Re: my sig line, thanks. I had another when I first started posting on SB nation, but a guy on BCB had it first so I switched to this one.

screw a blowout
just beat BC for once. that losing streak has become an embarrassment, similar to the home skid against Michigan State.
hopefully like Sparty, that streak comes to an end on Saturday.

I agree
A win keeps this ship moving in the right direction. The bigger the win the better, but a win will be enough in itself.
But I want the Cotton Bowl
I might get to go that one.
I still think the Irish have lost all the games they will lose this year. That would warrant a BCS berth, but I’d rather them take the bowl that is a notch below. Next year though, it’s BCS or bust.

Until we beat BC I will be a little scared of them...
and from some of the things Ive heard, ND doesn’t match up well with Stanford… Im not sure how much validation there is to that but Jim Harbaugh has made a career of killing me… I still remember a playoff game where Jim Harbaugh marched his Colts into Arrowhead in the postseason knocking top seeded 13-3 Chiefs… DAMN YOU JIM HARBAUGH!!!

Also!
I want to crush BC this week, because Im going to be rooting for them a little next year when Mark Herzlich rejoins the team. I lost a friend who had Ewings Sarcoma, its the same form of cancer that kid form BC has.
They just had a little thing on college gameday live about him, talking about how him and Weis have been talking back and forth… That is all.
