Jappy Oliver out as Notre Dame DL coach
Notre Dame released the following statement regarding Jappy Oliver, the fourth-year defensive line coach for the Irish.
Defensive line coach Jappy Oliver has resigned from his position at the University of Notre Dame to pursue other opportunities.
While it's worded nicely to make the split amicable, we have been hearing he was gone from before the Syracuse game. I don't think he was a terrible coach, but he struggled in recruiting and we have had some suspect DL classes in the past.
We have not heard any names for the DL position, but we have heard one for the offensive coordinator position. We are trying to track that down and confirm that. Stay tuned...

Oh well
The DL wasn’t ever that impressive.

I was hoping to see Latina go.
This must have something to do with Oliver’s ability to recruit. Either Trevor Laws was a great raw talent, or Oliver really taught him how to play.
You wonder what the D would have been like had the defensive line had the talent that the o-line has. Until we find a way to put together a consistent running game, I think we have a problem.
IF IT TAKES FOREVER!!
