Irish in the NFL: Week Two

Chris texted me on Sunday.  It read: "I forgot how ND winning makes everything else better, too."  Truer words have ne'er been spoken.  A day after the Irish used "Jesus tears" to wash the Wolverines off the field, runoff from that holy downpour seeped into the NFL ground water and out sprang one beautiful dandy of a Sunday/Monday night.

But you could care less about how those Wolverine, Buckeye, Trojan or Gator alumni (maybe that's the wrong word since alumni means you graduated).  I knows what you wants.  Here's your table for the week, more info on those with *'s and THE BADDEST-ASS PICTURE EVER after the jump.

  • Justin Tuck.  Three tackles, two sacks, and one interception returned 41 yards for a touchdown.  Giants win 41-13.  'Nuff said.
  • John Carlson further established himself a prime target in Seattle with an impressive six catch, 78 yard performance in the Seahawks 33-30 overtime loss to Arnaz Battle, Allen Rossum and the San Francisco 49ers.  His quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck, continues to struggle with accuracy issues.  Hasselbeck went 18/36 for 189 yards and 2 INT's and through two games has a passer rating of 48.6.  Imagine what Carlson could do when Hasselbeck is on his game.
  • Julius Jones rebounded from a weak Week One performance and, as documented above, nearly single-handedly carried the Seahawks into overtime.  26 carries, 127 yards, and one touchdown later Jones made his fantasy owners happy, if not Seattle's fans who suffered yet another loss.
  • Trevor Laws injured his quad in the second quarter of the Eagles Monday night loss to the Cowboys.  For the second straight game he did not record a stat, and unfortunately was unable to return later in the game.  Eagles and Irish fans unite in hopes for a speedy recovery.
  • Brady Quinn again rode the pain and joined the fans in Cleveland Browns stadium in watching another Derek Anderson stinker.  Anderson went 18/32 for 166 yards and two picks, although again his receivers suffered from stone hands.  You read it here first, if the Browns start 0-4, and Anderson's play doesn't improve, then Brady Quinn will be the Browns Week Five starter in Cleveland against the Giants.
  • Pray for those affected by Hurricane Ike this past weekend.  Also throw in a prayer for Darius Walker.  D-Walk was promoted from the practice squad this past week in response to the typically durable Ahman Green's ankle sprain.  Unfortunately, Ike postponed the game against Tommy Z and the Ravens until November.  Barring a speedy recovery by Green, Darius looks to be the 2nd/3rd back for the Texans this upcoming week on the road against the Titans.

That's the your wrap for the week.  Go Irish (in the NFL)!  Beat (Week Three Opponent)!
