Quinn Watch 2008: Latest NBA Draft Rumors From Miami

For a team that worked so hard tanking to get such a high lottery pick, the Heat seem in no hurry to use it on one of the most highly rated players coming out of college in some time.  While a Wade-Marion-Beasley 2-3-4 might be appealing to some, Pat Riley is not one of those people, still enamored with the prospect of getting OJ Mayo, making him a point guard and waiting a year for Elton Brand or Carlos Boozer to come to Miami via free agency.  Certain teams - your Minnesotas, your Seattles - must acquire big-time players through trades.  When your franchises are stationed in places Miami, Los Angeles or Phoenix, you can just sort of wait for the high rollers to come visit you.

This quest for a point guard is obviously not an endorsement of Chris Quinn as a starter in this league, although Riley is quite happy with the Notre Dame product's work with the team.  Quinn is a free agent, but Riley expressed interest in bringing him back towards the end of last season saying, ""Quinny, of all the things that have gone wrong this year, he has gone absolutely right. Totally right in every aspect of the game.  He's probably the most professional player we have on our team. He just is. I don't care how young he is or if he doesn't play or does play or whatever, the most professional player we have on our team right now."

The Heat are well, well under the cap, and would most likely be able to make Quinn an offer equal to anything he'd be getting elsewhere (unless someone grossly overpaid for his services, at which point, hurray for Chris).  Chad Ford has an entire piece up on the potential for who might be dealing with the Heat leading up to tomorrow's draft, with the potential pieces coming to town including:

1)      The still popular Shawn Marion and the number two for Elton Brand and the number seven.

2)      The number two for Mike Miller, Mike Conley, Jr. and the number five, which is an extremely enticing offer, although they'd lose Mayo.

3)      A few pieces from the Timberwolves (Corey Brewer) or Sonics (Chris Wilcox) to slide down a spot or two and maybe still have a shot at Brewer.
