New Kicker This Weekend?

According to an Eric Hansen story in the South Bend Tribune, Notre Dame has found a walk on that is now competing with Walker for the field goal kicking duties.  His name is David Ruffer and he transfered from William and Mary where he was also a walk on, but at the wide receiver position.  My favorite part of the article is when the kid's dad is quoted as saying matter-of-factly the longest field goal he ever saw his kid hit was "56 or 57."  Oh, no big deal.  My kid can hit 'em from almost 60 while ND's kicker struggles from anywhere beyond 20.  At this point isn't anyone else worth a try?

Update...

the story today is that Charlie said he’ll start Walker, but if the game gets out of hand (now I have another reason to root for us to be up 21-0 in the first) he’ll send Ruffer in.

And the kid supposedly hit every last field goal in practice. I have no idea whether they were practicing full-on game situations with defenders running at him or not, but he apparently made multiple field goals from 45.

We could have not one (Anello) but two kids out-Rudying Rudy this year.
