BlogPoll: Week One Draft

Here's the rough draft of my BlogPoll ballot due Wednesday morning, although allow me to preface this posting with a few quick things:

* Some of the deltas are screwed up, as I most certainly did not have Auburn, Notre Dame and Va Tech move that far in either direction.

* The football I got to see was very limited due to being in Athens and Atlanta on Saturday, so I apologize.

* In reference to the poll as a whole, I think the only thing worse than a sample size of zero is a sample size of one. Tennessee could end up being a bust and Cal could end up winning the national title. (I don't think that's true at all, but hey, it could happen. Even to you, Coloardo.)

* I dropped Louisville after Michael Bush's injury, which is against the belief systems of some pollsters. I'm supposed to rank the Top 25 teams in the order of how good/deserving they are. After blowing out Kentucky and losing one of their two best players, I think the net results are downward for the Cardinals.

* I just realized I have left off UCLA and really want them on there. Any idea where to insert them?

Rank Team Delta
1 Auburn 17
2 Southern Cal 1
3 Ohio State 1
4 Texas 5
5 West Virginia 1
6 Notre Dame 19
7 Louisiana State 1
8 Louisville 4
9 Iowa 2
10 Florida 2
11 Tennessee 9
12 Florida State 5
13 Michigan 8
14 Clemson 1
15 Oregon 9
16 Nebraska 1
17 Michigan State 1
18 Virginia Tech 15
19 Miami (Florida) 9
20 Oklahoma 6
21 Penn State 2
22 TCU 1
23 Arizona State 2
24 Georgia Tech 2
25 Cal 12

Dropped Out: Georgia (#22).

Georgia dropped out?
You are seriously dropping Georgia out of the top 25?  For their close 48-12 call against Western Kentucky?

#23 Arizona State was given a game into the fourth quarter by Northern Arizona...

#17 Michigan State went down to the wire with Idaho...

#22 TCU went toe-to-toe with mighty Baylor...

#25 Cal was blasted by Tennessee...

#24 Georgia Tech lost at home...

With these teams in your top 25, I must say...Georgia is an odd choice to drop.

I didn't actually drop Georgia...
...I never had them on my original ballot and will be adding them along with UCLA in this week's ballot.

Question
Here's my question: Shouldn't the polls be a reflection of what has happened thus far this season?

I wrote on my site about how Cal flopped but it should also be noted that Tennessee was pretty dominant. If one is voting based on known quantities (things that have actually happened) as opposed to unknown quantities (things we think are going to happen but may not), I don't see how Tennessee isn't first.

My ballot, if I were in the BlogPoll (and I didn't apply to be because after Week 1, I don't see games live; I watch about 25 Tivoed games a week from Monday-Thursday though):

  1. Tennessee - Slaughtered a highly thought of Cal team. One of only two teams with a win over a ranked opponent.
  2. Florida State - Won at the Orange Bowl for the first time since 1998. One of only two teams with a win over a ranked opponent (and on the road, no less).
  3. Southern Cal - Went on the road and hung 50 on a team with a good defense.
  4. Notre Dame - Most were disappointed in their performance, I was impressed with it. I didn't think this team had the defense to win a grind it out game, especially on the road. I'm more of a believer in Notre Dame now than I was 72 hours ago.
  5. Oregon - I don't think they'll be better than Ohio State, Auburn or Texas but a home blowout over Stanford is better than a home blowout over Northern Illinois, Washington State or North Texas.
  6. Ohio State - Ran it up in the first quarter; could have scored 70 if they wanted to.
  7. Auburn - Slaughtered a Washington State team many thought was much improved.
  8. UCLA - Some have said Utah could be a BCS team this year and UCLA beat them by three touchdowns.
  9. Texas - Nice start to the Colt McCoy era.
  10. Florida - I think Southern Miss is better than Akron, Vanderbilt, UL-Lafayette, Marshall, UAB, Kentucky, Louisiana Tech and all the other crummy teams that the powers beat up on.
  11. Colorado - Lost at home by nine to DI-AA Montana State.
  12. Duke - Got shutout at home by DI-AA Richmond.
